clinic is run by our fully trained Asthma Nurse each Wednesday afternoon,
(for those patients who are unable to attend at this time, alternative
appointments can be made by prior arrangement).
The main objectives of this clinic
is to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle for Asthmatic patients
registered with the practice through correct management and education.
The Objective of this Clinic is to:
- Reduce stress and anxiety for patients and their
families
- Reduce hospital admissions
- Education patients to use asthma medication
and inhalers appropriate
What is the procedure for getting an
Asthma Clinic appointment?
- Direct referral by Doctor
- Self Referral by patient
- General Health screening
- Referral from other practice staff
What will happen at my first consultation?
On your first visit the Asthma Nurse will check all
your registration details on the computer including :
- Asthma history, symptoms and life style
- Previous medical history/family history
- Present Asthma history Past/present asthma medication
- Determine personal levels of knowledge about
your Asthmatic condition
- Check personal inhaler technique and Nebuliser
compliance (if appropriate)
- Details of your height, weight, Blood Pressure,
chest sounds, Peak Flow readings will also be taken.
- Any other investigations which the nurse feels
are appropriate will be arrange at this time.
How will I know when to attend the Asthma
Clinic again?
After your first appointment, your name
will be entered on to the Practice Asthma Register and the nurse
will advise you when to make your next appointment. Initially you
may need to be seen more often, but once your condition is under
proper control you will only need to see the nurse every 6 months.
